Someone who knows more can pipe in -- would it be possible that the second understudy is going on in both cases because they rehearse together? When shows are doing understudy rehearsals, do they generally have the understudies paired like that, or is it more free-form?
Related questions: are there understudy rehearsals where they do the entire show with understudies in all the parts, or is it more that the stage manager does 90% of the lines and only one or two understudies are actively participating? And after the show opens, if you are understudying a principal, how often do you run through the show with a stage manager? If you are a swing, do you rehearse the ten parts you are covering on your own, or is the stage manager actively going through each part with you on a regular basis? Just wondering. |
