| Thanks to Mother Nature for perfect weather this weekend. Here's a quick rundown of what we enjoyed this weekend: Beautiful Noise: Yeah, I get it, theatre purists don't like jukebox musicals. Fine. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, and I was almost apologetic for having selected it to appease others. Well, we all had a good time. Not every show is a Tony winner. Some just bring people into the theater and send them home happy. If you stop analyzing and join in the moment, it's fun. Are there flaws? Sure. Was it a waste of money? Absolutely not. Prima Facie: I can't say "Just hand Jodie the Tony now" since I didn't see the other nominated performances, but wow - if anyone can beat her, they deserve it! Acting at its finest. Shosana Bean residency at the Midnight Theater: Pure bliss. For the first time, she didn't allow photos/videos, and wow - what a difference when you are truly present in the moment. She asked us all to leave something behind as she attempted to move forward herself, and the show of all originals (with one exception) must have been truly cathartic for her. An incredible evening with an amazing vocalist - and songwriter! Shoutout to a tight band and backing vocalists who were perfect for her. (NOTE: I got rid of New York, New York tickets to free up the slot to see Shoshana. Per the woman I sold them to at half price, who loves Broadway and works with several casts behind the scenes, I "dodged a bullet." &Juliet: Again, jukebox, but again, a great time at the theater. Witty book, enthusiastic ensemble, strong leads, and an appreciative audience. And yes, much better than Beautiful Noise. Meals of note since people often ask where to eat: Late lunch at Sarabeth's (Central Park South location), brunch at Dolly Varden, dinner at Uncle Jack's, and best of all - lunch at Victor's. |
