| His set for the original London production of CHESS was the first thing I remember seeing in a theatre that truly made my mouth drop open. It wasn't my first big West End show and I'd seen my share of big theatrical spectacles by then (I was about 14), but the elegant simplicity of it (ironically, given that it was technically very complicated and cost an absolute fortune) took my breath away. | |
