| Now that is closed, does anyone have any factual information on why the Theatre for a New Audience’s production of Lope de Vega's Fuente Ovejuna featuring a well received (in London) translation by Adrian Mitchell and including one of my favorite actors (Jonathan Cake) did not receive an opening night and was not reviewed? Additionally, who saw it and did you enjoy the production? | |

| That's a shame, I would have liked to have seen it. I saw it once and as I remember it basically borrows from the Spartacus story. | |

| I see a lot of plays on and off Broadway every year - usually over 200. This production was barely on my radar. Almost no advertising, one email blast - this was a stealth production. There must be a story. | |

| I'm sure it was on every ATC member's radar due to the papering offers! Though even those were sparse, due to the cancelled shows I'm just now learning about. What a doomed snake bit production. | |

| From critics I know and a friend who bought tickets, I understand that the production was plagued by COVID. First one person, then several others. Critics had their tickets pulled and pulled again because actors were out. My friend's tickets were cancelled, too. Someone told me that ultimately the show only gave 11 performances. It's a very sad story, and I, too, have been a huge fan of Jonathan Cake, whom I first saw in Baby Doll in London in the 1990s. | |

| The actors must have been furious to lose potentially career altering NY reviews. Even if only fair, as long as they got reviewed, it's all good. | |

| This is correct. Press tickets kept being pulled and rescheduled because of Covid in the cast. And yes, there were 11 total performances when it was all done. In the last week they decided they weren’t going to officially open or have the show be open to review, but they did still (as a gesture of good will) let press attend the final 2-3 shows, if anyone could make it. So it’s possibly some press folks went. But even if they did, they won’t be publishing a review, because the show didn’t technically open. | |

| Aha! I'd been wondering this as well. I got to the "Final Performance." (Shout out to FP) Front row for Act II. It was kind of unsettling to invest an evening being in that area with no critical guidance. That obnoxious N.C. lady who goes to absolutely everything was there, raising hell as usual, having words with ushers and getting headphones even though she was in front row from the outset. It was a memorable show. Mezz was virtually empty. Lots of actor traffic up there, so that was convenient. Commander is written as a two dimensional pure villain. Cake really couldn't add much to that, but he was terrific and had great energy. TNA must have lost a lot on the show. | |
