| I imagine that the musicians who recorded the tracks are all being compensated for use of the recording in the show. I imagine its a worthwhile amount of$ $. Why not just pay 19 of them weekly AFM salaries instead ...? (I know - will never happen) Lets say that AFM and the Producer agree to 10 musicians on payroll. With benefits & taxes and other things that's around $32,000 a week. The weekly cost of this show must be $600,000+. That extra $32,000 will not make or break this show. Does anyone know what the current AFM position would be on the orchestrations and copying that were done for the recordings now being used in the show? |

| My information is that the recording being used for this production is not the one made for the version at the Public, which used NY Union musicians. This new recording was made with non-union talent, so it's doubtful they have any deal for re-use on Broadway. Re: salaries. Exactly. Producers grumble about union contracts adding to their bottom line, but pretty much everything else on the balance sheet costs more. As to the orchestrations and copywork, who knows? Copyists and an orchestrator(s) (along with a contractor) would certainly have to be brought in for this production, even if it goes forward with only a fraction of the minimum but, as I said above, this recording was done without a union contract, so there probably wouldn't be a re-use payment for anyone involved ..... except of course for Fatboy Slim and David Byrne. |
