| Kudos to the kids of Carroll High School in Indiana. And a pox on their chickenshit administration. | |

| More info at the linked story below. The principal and the superintendent seem like they would be horrible people to work for. According to the student interviewed in the article, the principal decided on his own to cancel the show, after auditions had already started, and his reasoning was that it was for the students' well-being, although he didn't discuss it with any of them. And the principal was worried about how the students would be affected by a protest against the play, although no one had actually threatened that they would protest. Then there was a school board meeting, and while some parents cited their faith in protest, every single student who spoke was in support of the play. But the superintendent still said that canceling the play was being done because it was in the best interest of the students. Then he says about LBGTQ+ students who are upset by the decision that "We certainly don’t want to, by making a different selection regarding a play, to do anything that makes them feel any less included than anyone else in our school. We want all students to feel safe and a sense of belonging there.” And then he says, "But we will not be performing the play that was in question,” he said. There is so much crazy doubletalk. I hope the students run away from that school as soon as they are able and never look back. As a side note, another article mentions that Michael Oberholtzer, a Tony nominee last year for Take Me Out, is from their city and did a Zoom call with the students. Oberholtzer's a good guy to have done that, and I hope he's helping the students see that there's life beyond their dysfunctional high school. |
