You've made a similar comment a few times. Maybe you're not understanding that these "rules" aren't just observed out of convention, like "no-white-after-Labor-Day", by Victorian-era schoolmasters with unhealthy fixations. They are contractual provisions that are being enforced by the parties who negotiated them. This is apparently the price of admission for contracting with a Broadway house. If the producers don't like it for artistic reasons (which I am very sympathetic too since it's a karaoke show), or they can't make the math work, they can find a different venue.
