This is true. And on balance, for a first time out, the wealth was spread fairly well in terms of representation, or at least better than it could’ve gone.
But it’s also true that even with as much diversity as there is among all the multiple nominees a white cisgender man won in nearly every acting category – which I’ve been saying for over a year was likely to be the overall upshot of doing away with gendered awards.
I look forward to the occasion when 2 women, 2 women of color, or 2 non-binary performers, win in the same category. But my hunch is that more often than that, there will be times to come when even as they hand out awards to two winners, they occasionally both go to two white males. |
