| (I haven't listened to the NPR piece yet). Yes, it is complicated. But I for one am tired of reading things that project "We don't think you'll be recognized for merit (because of prejudice), so we'll just make it easier for you." It's a pat on the head and offensive. I'm pro non-gendered categories, and if it looks like there is discrimination, deal with that. Not expecting a quick fix. I think things have progressed enough that women can compete with men in the performing arts. Equity in the nominating and voting process helps, too. I'd like to hear why you think men will dominate? On the two awards comparison, there are far more acting candidates than directors, scenic designers, etc. and multiple winners makes sense. Just my opinion. |
