I in no way meant to imply that they couldn't compete on their merits.
It is a strong, strong category. And Hayes winning wouldn't be notable in and of itself. But in the context of the larger world still full of inequity, and in a category where all the performances were excellent, I think it could seem odd if the only white guy won.
I'm not saying it would necessarily be racism, and I certainly get why people strongly disagree with my comment. |
