| A teacher friend of mine (single mom) and her 8 year old daughter are going to NYC for the first time, and really wants her kid to see THE LION KING. They could go Tuesday, Wednesday Mat or evening) or Thursday. They are going through ticket master and I am finding it hard to believe that the show has such "non great" seats on a Tuesday night especially. Seats are either in the orchestra (starting with row V extreme side) or 2nd to the last row in the theater. Full price plus the lovely ticket master fees. I am telling about the digital lottery, but that is pretty iffy. I know that there is not a general rush, but what might happen if she went to the box office at 10 am and asked what they had for that performance? Might there be a better chance for a better seat at full (but not the "premium" price at that time? Not sure about box office holding back seats (even house seats) till the day of the show. Can I get some advice? I honestly think that if the 8 year old was way off to the side or way in the far back, she would not really follow the show. Also, any other advice for a show that an 8 year old would enjoy? I think she might be too young for Wicked... and LIFE OF PI (which I LOVE) is too much. Thanks in advance. |

| I remember trying to get tickets for THE MUSIC MAN last summer. All the tickets in the orchestra were "premium" seats (even the last row of the orchestra) and were priced at about $600. I wanted to go to a Wed. matinee, so I waited until about 2 a.m. on Wednesday morning and those $600 seats were now about $165. The woman sitting right next to me was not happy to hear how much I had paid as she had purchased her seats months before and paid the premium price. So, sometimes it helps to wait. | |

| Ditto what dramedy says about testing the waters. See what comes up if you try to buy a ticket at 10 am the day of the show, or even 2-3 hours before curtain. What do you see right now, but for tomorrow's show? And what happens if you check tomorrow morning, or tomorrow at 4-5 pm? I have always found it possible to get great seats day-of, where once-premium seats had been reduced to normal prices. And that's even for the biggest hits. The trick is knowing when to try for them (24-48 hrs in advance, that morning, 3 hours before, etc.). Things could be different now that some schools are out and more kids are coming, but I think you'll still find seats, since most people like to buy in advance. I know it's harder with a kid in tow, but especially given they have some flexibility, and there are only 2 people, I'd bet walking up to the box office a few hours before the show on Tuesday would be the best bet. 10 am could be fine, but it might even be better to try in the afternoon. And then if they didn't have great seats, you can always ask if you'd be better to try again the next day for the matinee. And of course buying at the box office avoids those fees. Shows always hold back seats for possible house seats, even for long-running shows. Cast members have friends and family coming into town, etc. And for your other question, an 8-year-old might also enjoy Peter Pan Goes Wrong. |

| So not surprising that there isn’t much. I would test the waters now. See what is available for this week on t-th. Keep checking to see what the routine is for this show. Is it 24 or 48 hours to release house seats and premium drop to regular or is it hours before curtain. It could be that this show does so well that it rarely needs to drop premium. This is how I do other shows that I want to see but there are lousy seats a few weeks before the show. | |
