Radcliffe hasn't had luck with Tony nominations, having been passed over for ''Equus,'' ''How to Succeed'' and ''The Cripple of Inishmaan.''

And yet the Drama Desk nominated him for those three shows for Outstanding Actor (plus Featured Actor for ''Merrily We Roll Along'').

Though ''Merrily'' is the tale of 3 ''Old Friends,'' I find Frank is the leading role, and Charley and Mary basically complement him.

I'd guess that ''Merrily'' will petition the Tonys to rule that Radcliffe would be Tony-eligible in Featured.

Back at the 2012 Tonys, Ricky Martin headlined a new revival of ''Evita'' and was clearly its star. And yet the Tonys ruled that Martin would be eligible in Featured, which is where Mandy Patinkin won his Tony (as Che Guevara) for the original ''Evita'' in 1980.

Not that I imagine Radcliffe is losing much sleep over this.

When he wasn't (deservedly) Tony-nominated for ''How to Succeed,'' Radcliffe said he shocked by the reactions of others, as if he had lost a relative: ''It was sweet, but over the top. I think I speak for 99% of actors when I say that the reason we do this job, while it’s lovely to get recognized by your peers, it’s not the reason why we do it. The people that do this job for awards and recognition are kind of worshipping at the wrong altar.''
