The whole season (the only season) is available on YouTube. It's very uneven, the comedy skits are painful, and the first few episodes simply have Julie recycling her movie and stage hits, which is disappointing. But episode19 springs to life with terrific turns by guest stars Angela Lansbury and Steve Lawrence and so far it's by far the best. The three of them are featured on two extensive medleys, share backstage stories ( I had no idea Angela's mother was in The Boy Friend in NY with Julie), and sing a couple of songs from My Fair Lady and Dear World that were cut before opening. Also, Julie and Steve perform a lovely medley of bossa nova hits accompanied by the great Brazilian guitarist Luiz Bonfá.
Also, Alice Ghostly and Rich Little are recurring supporting players and there's also a nice corps of back-up dancers. |
