I was at this afternoon’s performance of Good Night Oscar as well, and Thom915 is right — enthusiastic, prolonged applause that felt genuine rather than performative. Same with the Midler Hello, Dolly. I hate it when audiences yell and call out, and make all manner of ungodly noises, and make themselves part of the show. But then I rarely go to shows that are likely to generate that kind of response.
