| Hadestown matinee on TDF, $59.50 before fees, and I had mezzanine seat E4, which was great for this show in that super-raked mezz. And the production is terrific (not as good as my top-ten experience with the musical at NYTW, except I prefer the performance of Reeve Carney over Damon Daunno). It was a fun revisit after all this time. Eva Noblezada was out. Lillias White was as good as I expected her to be - a great role for her. Caught The Cottage this evening, $51 before fees for mezzanine seat A4, which was fine, but this show might play better when viewed from a closer seat. I went in knowing nothing about it, even the cast, except that Jason Alexander directs. It's a take-off of a 1920s British madcap romantic comedy, I guess (the whole cast may be non-Brits). It's still very early and there were some pauses/dead spots, but lots of surprises and comic bits, though I didn't laugh very much. I often thought, "that's funny" but didn't laugh, except for maybe four times. Others laughed much more, but no full standing ovation. I didn't recognize Laura Bell Bundy, but I'm not sure I've seen her since I saw her go on for Kristin Chenoweth in Wicked, and I'm sure I look different now, too. She plays the main part here and she's very good with the comedy. Eric McCormack and Alex Moffat are funny guys, so maybe the show will tighten up a bit. Two times, cast members seemed to be cracking up at their own antics and those were the parts the audience found the most hilarious. I look forward to hearing other opinions about this one. |
