| Why add this sleazy, post-mortem humiliation to Sondheim's legacy? He may have had a yawning chasm of self-hatred from his home life, growing up. Maybe that haunted him into his adult years, and expressed itself in other forms of abuse. I don't really want to know. Why do you? Why add to it? As a gay man who grew up in the backlash against gay rights, in the Bible Belt, in the 70's, I find this sort of talk a "sex dungeon" of its own kind. |
