None of the women mentioned in this subthread as possible replacements would sell tickets, except maybe Bernadette Peters.
Since Peters has already played Desiree and Dolly on Broadway replacing the Tony-winning original leading ladies in those productions, I imagine that she, at this point in her career, is more interested in playing great parts than getting hung up on only originating roles. If she was interested in this role and the producers could pay whatever her going rate is these days, I don't think not being the first choice for the role would stop her from doing it. |
