Nope, that’s not all it takes, but you haven’t taken the time to investigate how they are reframing the characters and their complexities through the specific narrative choices outlined in this press release. They are finding some ways to potentially complicate and elevate the actions and motivations in the storytelling.
Do I think it will lead to people clamoring to see the show? Who knows, maybe maybe not. But the show as written isn’t enough to draw a clamoring crowd, so why not try a new version? It doesn’t erase the old version.
I think the poster who compared it to Crazy for You is spot-on. Should it have a new title? That might help, but also… it’s a Pal Joey story. All they have to do is make it clear that it’s a new adaption, which they are doing. |
