Any thoughts about whether it will be hard to get tickets to the Sondheim musical if you're not a high-level member?

I realize that everything is going to be speculation since there's not really a comparable precedent, but I was wondering what people think about how hard it will be to get tickets to Sondheim's final musical at the Shed if you're not a high-level member. I joined at the $10 level, which gets you a level of pre-sale, but there are two levels that open up before that, one at $100 membership and one at $500. The $500 level is not on my radar screen. The $100 is not out of the question but I am unlikely to use any of the other benefits besides earlier access to this show, so I'd rather not pay the $100 if getting that earlier access wasn't needed.

On one hand, I am guessing that there is a lot of interest in the show given the enormous level of media coverage for Sondheim's passing in the general press, which was more than I thought there would be for any Broadway figure, even one who is such a legend for theater people. On the other hand, we don't know the cast, and we don't know whether it's any good. It's a gamble that it's unclear how many people will take. The details of the run are still unknown, but it seems like it will be around 16 weeks in a 500-seat theater, so that's a reasonable number of seats that are potentially available.

I just don't know. Any thoughts?

I suppose one could "split" a $100 or $500 membership with a friend...

...who would attempt to buy the tickets for the both of you during the pre-sale.

Like you, I signed up for the $10 level earlier this year. I'll take my chances on the $10 pre-sale. As exciting as it will be to see the last Sondheim work, I'm tempering my expectations based upon his last major work prior to this... Road Show / Bounce... which, I'm afraid, won't be part of the canon.

But, maybe Sondheim will surprise us. Good luck next week!!

Unless I'm behind the times, we don't know when the run begins, when it ends, what the schedule is, what the tickets prices are, who's in the cast, etc.

It's a crazy rollout!

I joined with the IDNYC card, and I think I'm a Builder 1 level. I that the same level you're on?

gad90210, it looks like the IDNYC benefits are the same as the Builder 1 level, which is normally $100. I'm at the $10 level, which basically just gives you early access to sales and not much else (which is understandable for the low cost).

The website still has no information about dates, cast, or prices, although if the show is starting in September, rehearsals must be starting very soon if they haven't already. I guess we'll see if they provide more information on Monday.

I predict ticket prices will be insane.

Everyone will try to go because it’s an historic event but the show won’t be that great.

There will likely be a few discounts near the end of the run when the shine has worn off and potential audience members waiting for reviews decide to sit this one out.

I predict you're very wrong and it'll sell out before everyone gets a chance to buy a ticket.
