| Currently casting a production with two stars ... out of the blue, we are getting blanket turn downs. This is for a play in 2024 . "Actor A is so grateful for your offer. Unfortunately "A" cant look at theatre work at this time, as A has projects that will start up again as soon as the strike is over. Thank you so much for your interest" | |

| We are in a holding pattern at the moment because there is a feeling by a good many people that this strike won't last long because it is killing a lot of AMPTP members and not having talent to sell shows for the holidays will be devastating. (Maybe not to Disney etc but to many less well heeled studios and production companies.) And yes there is a huge amount of work that is ready on hold for film/tv and a lot of people juggling those commitments right now. Maybe that's a pipe dream but it is too soon to tell. This strike just started. (It is also felt that settling this will sweep up the WGA in its tail winds.) This assessment will move in one direction or another over the next few weeks and agents are not going to create a mess to give out of until there is some clarity (unless maybe it is the Weisslers giving contracts with an easy out on a dime). So my advice is: cool your jets. [No charge.] | |

| I know. I think a lot of people are worried because no one knows anything yet. I do believe we will know at least by Labor Day where things stand. I do think gaining control of likenesses and so on is repugnant and non-negotiable so we shall see. |

| "I do think gaining control of likenesses and so on is repugnant and non-negotiable so we shall see." This is just so outrageous. I wonder if it is a straw dog. |

| We live in a time of rapacious greed and exploitation, where the people who run Hollywood literally want to bankrupt writers rather than pay them fair wages, so nothing these people do should ever be considered outrageous. | |

| I agree but I think even the idea of "the people who run Hollywood" is nostalgic for an era when there were separate markets of studios and distributors who could set prices and bargain. That's no longer the case. "Hollywood" is basically one large bundle of assets whose shareholders are only concerned with short term profits. Around five years ago those assets were owned by maybe five vertically bundled companies, today it's probably closer to three. And it's not working, even the studio-streamers haven't figured out how to really make money. Like pretty much everything else in US business, these monster asset-bundles need to be broken up to achieve actual markets again so people besides billionaire investors can earn a living. | |
