If its helpful, I do think their website went through some ups and downs. It worked, and then it didn't work, and now its definitely not working. But phone doesn't work any longer, either. At 2pm, they were picking up the phone. Now, they are not. So hitting #2 does not work. This is an update as of 2:40pm. Trying to get tickets via the online queue causes you to start all over again with a minimum of 35 minutes wait times. If you got through the queue, you heard a ding sound and the message said "It's now your turn." But then it went to a loading screen that did not load.

I got through on the phones. The first time I got patched through to an answering machine, but then I got through to a very helpful clerk, while my place in the digital queue was still ticking down.

Give it a try, anyway:

I got online very easily, queue opened for me at 1:57 (and as a Builder 1 member, I couldn't purchase until 2PM) and in less than three minutes I was in. Got the date I wanted, too! Going to be All Sondheim All Day as I'll be seeing Merrily the same day!

The website crashed for me, too, but the phone operator picked up surprisingly quickly. Got the seats I wanted, so I'm happy, even if I didn't get to peruse a seating chart.

The sales portal was live at 11:55, and I snagged a pair for first preview and a second pair for after opening. Very glad I tried early given the site seemed to crash immediately at noon. I didn’t think this first two hour window would be that bad, but it’s unfortunately not a good sign for the general on-sale…

For Straight Line Crazy I sat in Row M and was happy with the view. Of course, the theater may be configured differently this time around.

I mean, at this point why not just start them at $500 apiece? 1K apiece?

That's probably where we're headed, and I say this as someone who saw Merrily at NYTW (worth every penny).

For me, if it's good I'll just wait until it comes to Broadway in a few years. But best of luck to the rest of you!

I'm confused. There are tickets available for this show for $110. The highest is around $300. I don't understand your "why not start them at $500" reaction.

Because it starts a dangerous precedent for ticket prices both off-Broadway and on Broadway. If they can get away with charging $300, what’s next? $400 to see “Days Of Wine and Roses”?

Sondheim's last show seems to be more of a special event and thank heavens they aren't charging $500 because they probably could have and still sold out. In the end, I appreciate that there is always a cheap option in this case, $110/ticket.

In reply to: Road show didn’t make it to broadway - dramedy 11:02 am EDT 07/18/23

This is different, though. I think it's extremely likely that this will transfer to Broadway, and I would also say it's highly likely that it will happen this spring. And I think the ticket prices for non-premium tickets on Broadway will probably be similar and will be much easier to come by (although similarly-priced seats on Broadway won't be as close).

I'm really hoping I can get a ticket tomorrow, but I think that, rather than spending the extra $90 to go from the $10 to the $100 level to get earlier access, I'll probably have to spend that money on the ticket itself at these prices.

I would think that if the transfer were a foregone conclusion, they would have just gone to the main stem directly.

My first thought is that they were planning to so something physically that would have been a challenge or impossible or terribly expensive a la HLL.

They must have gotten a great deal on the lease or enhancement money. There are several 1000 seat houses available this fall on broadway.

It says Mr. Kirdahy (solo) is producing with the Shed and him "co-presenting" it. I don't know what that actually means but if it is a co-pro or the Shed's production with enhancement money, then the description is misleading. I think it is reasonable to assume it is not as expensive directly and certainly not indirectly. If the show has a design that would not fit easily in an unaltered Broadway house, the difference in load in budget would likely be enormous (especially if, as I suspect, there is no stage hand contract signed by the Shed). I have the sense that Tom is trying to do this on a budget, and that may well explain the absence of Mr. Lane from the cast announcement. But I know nothing.

What was the pricing for Merrily at NYTW?

What was the price for regular and premium seating for Merrily at NYTW? Was it similar to this? In Googling, I see an article that says they started at $145 but doesn't give any other detail.

According to that tweet, the prices are $349, $299, $259, $229, $169 and $129 for non-members, and 15% less for members ($297, $254, $220, $195, $144, and $110).

Many would say those prices are to be expected, but that's higher than I thought it would be. I don't know exactly how the 6 zones are structured, but it looks like the average seat will be $229 or $259. I thought it would be more like $150 or $175 but I guess that's why I'm not a producer!

I presume that this is record high pricing for an off-Broadway show. I'm not sure any off-Broadway show has had premium pricing at $259 before, let alone "regular" pricing at that level. I think Days of Wine and Roses had some seats at $259, but they included a signed Playbill as part of that package.
