Aside from the minor characters you mentioned, I'd add Jesse, the black trumpeter and veteran who deals with discrimination, and Mateo's homophobic father. Even in the wonderful dance number on the skyscraper beams early in Act I, you'll got Tommy (Clyde Alves), Jimmy's friend who pretty much disappears for the rest of the show, until nearly the end.
I kept waiting to see if there was some clever and surprising way in which they all somehow connected, but in vain. Great sets, though. But I agree: What a missed opportunity. |
