| According to the article, Kerry Butler is playing Karen, which was Katharine McPhee's role. There are clearly changes in the characters compared to the show (the character played by Christian Borle is now married to Debra Messing's character, for example), but this is a major shift. Karen was a naive, fresh-from-Iowa ingenue. Kerry Butler is 52 years old. She is incredibly talented but she's over a decade older than Robyn Hurder, who's playing Megan Hilty's role, and I don't think Butler can play a naive ingenue at this point in her career. The contrast between the naive Karen and the more experienced Ivy was one of the main thrusts of the TV show, and I'm really curious how the new script is handling that change. |
