Golden Rainbow this afternoon

This was apparently the first run through of this mufti production. I was particularly interested because I had seen Steve and Eydie at the Shubert in the original production back in 1968. I remember having a good time and totally captivated by the stars. Walter Marks was at this matinee and spoke at the talkback about how this was the first time that Golden Rainbow had been performed since it closed on Broadway. It has had no stock or community theatre productions. He continues to receive royalties from "I've Got to Be Me" the
hit song from the show. He had made numerous changes to the score for this presentation. For the most part hey worked, but I prefer "Take a Chance for Once in Your Life in the Second act. The cast was terrific led by Max Von Essen and Mara Davi. The standout as in the original cast was Benjamin Pajak as Ally. Hot on his performances on Broadway in Music Man and as Oliver at Encores. He was the anchor of this production and soared in his vocals as did the entire cast. This stripped down version of a musical that is 55 years sold worked remarkably well. I would recommend it.
