| Thanks for the report, Castro. I've always been fascinated by ''Golden Rainbow,'' which ran about a year, and imagined it must've been a hit with Steve and Eydie. Apparently, it wasn't a hit with the Tony nominators, who gave it only 2 nominations: Scott Jacoby, who played Ally, for Featured Actor, and Robert Randolph, for Set Design. Even though it wasn't up for Best Musical, ''Golden Rainbow'' kicked off the 1968 Tony Awards with their opening number, ''Twenty-Four Hours a Day.'' Oddly, this giant chorus number didn't include Steve & Eydie. Were their characters NOT in that number? If so, couldn't Steve & Eydie have introduced it? (Or did they choose NOT to perform, since the Tony nominators snubbed them?) I also bet having Steve and Eydie sing, or showcasing Steve's ''I've Got to Be Me'' would've sold a lot more tickets. Anyway, ''The Hollywood Palace'' did feature Eydie belting ''How Could I Be So Wrong'' and Steve doing his stirring signature tune, ''I've Got to Be Me.'' |
