I did. I was just talking about that and her husband did the Steve Lawrence role.
Debbie was on ofthe background singers on Broadway for THEY ARE PLAYING OUR SONG. When they went to California to record and was go to record the Marvin Hamlisch came to her to say that Edyie Gorme wanted to sing that part and she would not be doing it. When Debbie did a club date then, she sang one of the songs that Edyie was known for and told us the story. Hence forward to "Broadway 68". She got back at her. In 2000 was a movie ISN'T SHE GREAT' the bio of Jacqueline Susann. in which Debbie and Steve and Edyies son David portrayed them in a performance scene singing the Steve Allen song "The Start of Something New."
Not too long ago at 54 Below " in "54 Below Does Golden Rainbow" both Debbie and Michael Lawrence did the roles, brilliantly. I thought they would have been cast in the Muftis.
Anyway the cast of Muftis was brilliant and the song great. |
