No connection, Wayman, but both are from Old French. The bird one derives from “grue” and the complaining one from “grouchier,”meaning “to grumble.” That led to the English “grouch,” as in both noun and verb, and in the 19th century, that’s when “grouse” the verb came about.

And, as someone married to and the mom of avid birders, grouse can be graceful in flight.
