Well, I don't want to oversell it. There are some real problems with parts of it. In addition to the really inept staging and direction of the first scene in act two, I thought the last scene in act one was not well staged, and they fall into the trap of overstaging "Bobby and Jackie and Jack" that I think most productions I've seen after the original have done. I thought "Bobby and Jackie and Jack" was awful here, but the audience cheered.
But except when the staging defeats them, the three leads are excellent, and that counts for a lot. |
