| I just watched it as well. It was a very interesting, but quite bizarre and yes, dark film. I thought it started as a bit of comedy/satire about social class, but it soon turned into something along the lines of a psychological horror film with some Salvador Dali-type surrealism thrown in for good measure. It appears that this is the basis for the 2nd act of "Here We Are", and the word is that there isn't very much of it musicalized by the time Mr. Sondheim passed away. There was some piano-playing entertainment as part of the film's scenario, rather important in its reprise, which would have certainly lent itself to musicalization if Sondheim had been able to complete it. The ending of the film I found especially puzzling. Of course, Sondheim was well-known for loving puzzles. But I'm looking forward to seeing this in November. |
