It's usually classified as mezzo-soprano, but the truth is that it in the original show key is doesn't go too low for a soprano to easily sing nor too high for a classical contralto to easily sing. This is also true of "You'll Never Walk Alone" so Nettie can be sung by sopranos, mezzos and contralto, although productions often cast mezzos or contraltos to contract soundwise with Julie and Carrie, usually cast with sopranos, even though their ranges are pretty much the same as Nettie's.
Perhaps Chromolume or PlayWiz or someone else will have something to add or a different perspective to offer. |
