Because everything in the US, especially in New York and LA, is more expensive than Europe. Tickets, fees, drinks, food, renting an umbrella on a beach… you name it.
Every time I visit Europe I just get angry that we allow ourselves to be taken advantage of and don’t practice any type of consumer boycott when things escalate. And we should. Look at what happened last week when delta airlines announced they’re significantly worsening the terms of their frequent flyer memberships. The outcry was bad, they had to step back.
If we, the consumers, rebel against fees and exaggerated ticket prices, they would be cut by a lot. Greed is such a big part of our (corporate or private) culture that people have no shame charging exuberant prices for products and services, and we all willingly pay for them. For this to change, it needs to come from the consumers/audience/customers, drawing a line and saying a resonant “no”. |
