Mackintosh, in the midst of promoting ''Stephen Sondheim's Old Friends'' in London, says: Broadway hasn't really ''recovered'' from COVID.

The producer added: ''Overall, you don't have the smorgasbord of great talent, large and small, that we have in London. British theater is in [a] fantastically healthy state.''

I wonder what the creative community around the National Theatre of Wales would say to that assessment.

Indeed, UK arts in general are going through as rough a period of de-funding as in the US. But I have no idea, he might be right about the West End being in better shape than Broadway.
