| On an iPhone, scroll all the way to the bottom in Settings/Notifications. If you tap on "Emergency Alerts" there, you can both shut them off completely and prevent the sound. |

| Per The Washington Post: “If you have a phone that you absolutely do not want to make a sound - for instance, if you are in an abusive relationship and have a hidden device - there is something you can do. Turn it off before 2:20 p.m. Eastern and do not turn it on for at least 30 minutes. The alerts should not send after 2:50 p.m. Eastern.” | |

| Thank you! I remember now that there Is a hack for people with hidden phones. Obviously, I was in a good situation, seeing Alexander Zeldin's The Confessions in Paris (I hope it comes to NYC). My phone would have gone off at 8:20, assuming the alert works all the way in France which it probably doesn't, but I was careful not to turn the phone back on until the play was over since 1) I didn't want to disturb anyone anyway and 2) I didn't know if it would make a noise belatedly. I'm glad to understand how it works. And I'm still wondering if we'll get reports of any going off in theaters! | |

| I understand that Infinite Life is delaying the matinee curtain until 3pm to avoid the roar of all those cell phones going off. This event could be the showstopper of the year! | |

| Showstopper? Hardly. They do these tests 2--3times a year (and ALWAYS on a Weds at 2:00pm for some stupid reason). The world has continued on. |

| It's not always Wednesday; last September there were back-to-back tests on Monday & Tuesday. But I would have thought the reasons for 2 p.m. were obvious: time zones. Waiting until after 8 a.m. in Hawaii is just... good manners. | |

| Yeah, we wouldn’t want to tell people a ballistic missile was incoming too early in the morning. :) | |
