I'm the reviewer. No, I haven't see the original film. Yes, I am very aware of Fosse and his work, style, and perspective. I wasn't even born in 1966, so I can't speak for how this show was taken at that point. However, I have been a theater critic for 23 years and have seen north of 1200 musicals. I do think it's a valid thing to point out that for 2023 audiences, it isn't very audience-friendly in that it is an uphappy(ish) ending. I probably could have given more context around it, but....
