I think we here on ATC have a particular fondness for Miss Johns given her indelible performance of Stephen Sondheim's most famous song and the fact that it was written with her vocal qualities in mind. Coupled with her performance in an all-time classic film that has helped rear generations of people worldwide (pretty much anyone under 75 grew up on Mary Poppins), it makes us feel that she is a legend. But her career, though successful and well-remembered, has not been legendary. A damehood would be lovely and welcomed, but she really hasn't been working since 1999.
Most importantly I should be saying: "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MISS JOHNS!!!" |
