| It has 600 or 700 more seats than any of the theatres that traditionally housed the Tonys through the 20th century. It does bring up the issue of how much non-industry people in the audience have affected the quality and vibe of the broadcast. Do you know how many of Radio City's 3000 or so seats were sold to the public?Certainly the shows done in the 1960's, 70s and 80s were staider than they became in the Rosie O'Donnell/NPH era. Lincon Center would seem to give it a classier, more elegant tone. It's a nice visual to have the carpet stretched out across the plaza with the Met looming picturesquely in the background and the fountain dancing as the stars walk by. Too bad that after 20 years of glorious, large-scale musicals playing at the Beaumont, this year's big number might be the final scene of "Uncle Vanya"! I'm sure they won't but it'd be nice if some stars of the classical music world take part. Renee Fleming, Misty Copeland, Yannick Nezet-Seguin? |

| I basically agree that it is a better fit in terms of classiness etc. I also think that a lot of folks think it is a better fit than RCMH, the Beacon, or the United Palace. The latter was a nice idea but a logistical nuisance, and getting away from the other two that are owned by the odious James Dolan sits well also. Regarding the vibe, etc., I don't think there is any impact at all. |

| I believe the public only had access to tickets in the top 2 of the three mezzanines at Radio City, although I could be wrong. According to Wikipedia, Radio City seats 5960 people, with roughly 3500 in the orchestra and 800 in each of the three mezzanines. So that would mean roughly 4300 seats under control of the producers. Those 1600 seats for the public probably brought in $500,000 - $1,000,000 in seat revenue, so that's a notable loss of income. |
