| Whatever happened to "the show must go on?" Besides, maybe Daniels just happens to be worth seeing too. I recently worked with a director who, because of the youth in the cast, started referring to our understudies of all ages as "wonderstudies." Though I hated the pandering way they would use the term, I have to admit that there's something right about it too. Understudies have become our heroes especially post-pandemic. I don't care about the ticket prices. Let's see some respect for the people whose job it is to ignore comments like yours and to put their all into the performances they do. |

| With all respect, you may not care about ticket prices, but many theater goers on a limited budget do. I have great respect for understudies, and have seen some fine ones, but when a show is being sold on celebrities’ names, the producers have a responsibility to deliver those celebrities. I’m not judging Mr. Gad ; he’s a professional and I’m sure there was a good reason for his absence. I hope he is well. But I wouldn’t be critical of ticket holders who were disappointed not to see him. | |

| Let's sort this out so everyone can go home happy. 1. No one is blaming Josh for not performing under the circumstances. 2. I do not understand the sentiment in favor of cancelling the show. To me, that is disrespectful not only of the understudy but also of the portion of the audience that is happy to stay and see the performance with the understudy. 3. If one does not want to stay, they do not have to. They can get their ticket refunded (in essence, self-cancelling the show as to themselves). I am pretty sure Chromolume is simply encouraging folks to stay but not being "critical" of those who are disappointed. |

| I wouldn’t be critical of ticket holders who were disappointed not to see him. Literally no one has been critical of anyone for being disappointed. Just for suggesting that cancellation is preferable to an understudy. And for the record: "Not the news I’d like to share, but life happens. Unfortunately, I will not be at this afternoon’s performance of Gutenberg. I’m dealing with a medical emergency that despite telling my doctors I wanted to wait till Monday to address, they thought needed to be addressed immediately. So, off to hospital for (hopefully) quick treatment and then with any luck will be back by this evening🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 In the meantime, please help me wish @russelljdaniels the best of luck as he makes his Broadway debut as Bud! I know he is going to give you all the show of your lives!" - Josh Gad Not sure how you think the producers should have lived up to their "responsibility to deliver" him. |

| I think it was your comment about not caring about ticket prices that rankled. | |

| While I have utmost respect for understudies (having worked with dozens), I do find the term heroes a bit much. Mr. Daniels kept the curtain up no doubt, but his performance was what might be expected from one who had not stepped on a Broadway stage before let alone in a two character play. Did I feel a bit cheated? Well, to be honest...yes. This was certainly not a Julie Benko star-making moment. But few are. Still I did not ask to switch my tickets as was the option given when we were waiting to get into the James Earl Jones in the rain this afternoon. | |
