Many years ago I came across a negative review in the old (and much missed) publication Films in Review. The critic found the film stagey and old-fashioned in contrast with the concurrent release of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. The critic? Stephen Sondheim.,

\I remember Sondheim's review of ON THE WATERFRONT in the same magazine. He signed it STEVIE . Sondheim. I also remember a review of the film OLIVER, THE REVIEWER TOOK GREAT EXCEPTION TO ARRANGER Johnny Green adding a Counter melody to 'AS Long AS HE Needs Me
