Not a district with theaters clustered together.

Well, here's a different example: Raven Theatre, Rivendell Theatre, and Lifeline Theatre. All 3 are in the Rogers Park area of Chicago within a radius of 10 blocks of each other, sort of in a cluster. All 3, on occasion anyway, have presented new works on their stages.

I didn't take the poster literally - I thought they were looking for a regional theatre area that did a lot of new works.

I took it the same way. I mean, on the more limited geographic basis, even New York City fails. Is Chelsea in the same district as HK, or the West Village, or the East Village? To me, the answer is we have a "district" encompassing 3+ boroughs and 2+ states. I don't not go to BAM because it is not in some district. Same seems true in Chicago, SF, LA, Toronto, London, DC, and quite a few others I can think of.
