| So saddened by the news that Songwriter Steven Lutvak passed away at the age of 64. He was a friend and have known his for a very long time. He made it to Broadway with A GENTLEMEN'S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER a dream in which he fought hard to get the rights for, which is a story in itself, and won a , DRAMA DESK, OUTER CRITICS awards and a ton of nominations including a Tony in 1917. His song "Bagel Maker to the Czar" which is also titled the "Dinner PartyA' was one of the funniest songs I ever heard. He had a daughter. His songs were brilliant and I am in shock. RIP | |

| He was also an extraordinary vocal coach. He co-wrote “I’ll Imagine You a Song” with Carol Hall after the untimely death of Nancy LaMott. Very moving song. I haven’t been able to bring myself to listen to his recording of it since getting this dreadful news. | |

| Wow, this is a flashback! I just remembered I sang backup on the recording of Steven singing this song. Gosh, he was amazing. What a beautiful song beautifully sung. Dang, they should produce all of his unproduced shows. | |

| Such a really nice guy and multi-talented -- not only as a composer and lyricist, but as a fine singer/pianist and vocal coach. I've met Steven a number of times over the years, and he was always very friendly and down to earth. I feel sad for his young daughter, whom I'm met, and his husband. Steven is gone much too early, and his absence will be felt by many. Rest in peace. | |

| OMG! This is shocking news. I’m sorry I lost touch with him over the years. I did 2 workshops of his THE WAYSIDE INN back in 2001. His music was wonderful and I got to sing a duet with Emily Skinner that I’m glad to have a recording of. Other actors in those workshops: Chuck Cooper, Jose Llana, Brooks Ashmanskas, and Stephen Bogardus. People wanted to work with him. He was a lovely man. I was so happy that his show GGTLAM won the Tony Award for Best Musical. This is just awful news. He was a very good composer who could write in different styles. THE WAYSIDE INN sounded nothing like GGTLAM. I wish someone would try to produce it and other shows he wrote. He could also sing. A mega-talent. | |

| How sad! I knew Steven before his ''Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder'' made it to Broadway. I remember him playing New York cabarets, delighting us with his wonderful songs. Two of my favorites were his lilting ''A Lover of High Wire'' and his touching ''Museums.'' And Steven wrote a comic gem called ''The Dinner Party (Bagelmakers to the Czar).'' (All on YouTube.) | |

| Thank you, Mary Ann. I was in a doctor's waiting room this afternoon when I saw this on my phone, and was then called for my appointment. Later tonight, a mutual college friend confirmed my worst fears. I was lucky to have met Steven during his freshman year (I was a junior), and by the time he was a sophomore, he ruled the roost of anything remotely musical and/or theater. . Not only was he gloriously talented, but also just about the most genuinely nice person you could encounter, particularly in this dog eat dog business. Even in his teens, he was composing and had both a publisher and a lawyer. I'm heartbroken about this, and hope his husband and child will weather this as best they can. RIP. xo |

| Earlier this year, as part of a writing project, I researched the (long, agonizing) process he went through to get GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE to Broadway. One of my favorite shows. I'm startled and saddened to hear this news. | |
