| Visiting London in December for a few days. Not looking for a luxury hotel experience, but also not looking for a budget motel. We're going to be seeing some theatre in the West End and doing some of the usual tourist things like museums, parks, walking around taking in the Christmas decorations. Ideally a spot that's got good public transport access and/or won't be a one-hour cab ride to get to any of these activities. Other than that, we're looking for clean, comfortable rooms. Any recommendations? | |

| A nice B & B on Gower Street (near British Museum) is the Jesmond Hotel on Gower Street. It is family run and very nice. Have stayed there many times.Walking distance to West End theatres..and the Northern line is right up the street. https://www.jesmondhotel.org.uk/ |

| Bedford Corner Hotel is your answer. If you want to spend less then St. Giles is your answer. Both are very close to the Tottenham Court Road tube stop which is a direct train on the Elizabeth line to Heathrow and a quick walk to West End theaters (and Regents Park Open Air theater). |

| The Tavistock Hotel on Tavistock Square is in Bloomsbury and very close to the West End. Clean and very affordable with a spectacular English breakfast. | |

| I have stayed at the Tavistock and the presidents hotel nearby is very good. I can also recommend Saint giles. It is in a good neighborhood and the tariffs for all three restaurants are very reasonable, so check them out. | |

| I stayed at The Fielding this trip. Quite reasonable, although the rooms are very small. Incredibly convenient-- just across the street from the ROH. I was able to walk to most theaters in ten minutes or less. | |

| I stayed at the Fielding many years ago - they had a wonderfully friendly and chatty parrot at the front desk that made my day every time I passed by. I wonder if it is still there - I know they live long lives? (I also wonder if they ever put in an elevator, dragging lugguage up those narrow stairs was an ordeal!) | |

| The Strand.. across the street from the Savoy is my go to!! Very reasonable, clean, convenient. There is a Joe Allen adjacent to the hotel and a nice bar/restaurant inside. I would say it is comparable to the Edison in NYC. | |

| I recently had a good experience at the DoubleTree West End. It's outside of the Covent Garden/Leicester Square area...but easily walkable to those areas. It's sometimes nice to be away from that craziness too. Rooms are small, but most hotel rooms are small in London. But rooms are nicely renovated. The hotel is close to the British Museum, near the Holborn tube stop, which is along the Picadilly Line with easy access to Covent Garden, Leicester Square and Picadilly Circus if you don't want to walk. Breakfast buffet there was decent too. Have fun!! |

| In addition to those mentioned below, you might want to look into the Hotel Cavendish on Jermyn Street. It's a 5 minute walk to Picadilly Circus and very convenient to all West End theatres and yet it's on a very quiet street. Closest Tube stop is Green Park on the Piccadilly Line. The park is also five minutes away. London hotel rooms are generally small so if you can upgrade to an "Executive" room here you'll have a little more space and very nice views of London. Beyond this, the St. Martin's Lane Hotel is in the heart of the West End, also quiet though somewhat more expensive than the Cavendish. Also worth looking at: The Resident Soho which is more expensive than the Cavendish and less expensive than the St. Martin's. Good luck and enjoy! |

| I recently spent 10 days in London and checked out many hotels. Leicester Square is a great location in the heart of the theater district. That’s where I stayed. You may want to look at Hotel Indigo and the Trafalgar Thistle. More modest accommodations can be found at the Zedwell and Z hotels in the Piccadilly and Haymarket area. The Radisson Blu Edwardian Mercer Street (at Seven Dials) and Hampshire House in Leicester Square are in excellent locations, and are sometimes surprisingly reasonable. There’s also the very decent Hotel Piccadilly right on Shaftesbury Avenue, but the chiming bells of the neighboring church might be disturbing. There’s a beautiful new Riu Plaza at Victoria Station, but it’s a long walk (but just a few tube stops) from the Piccadilly area. In the Victoria area and near Buckingham are the distinguished Goring and Rubens Hotels. Near the intersection of Tottenham Court Road and Charing Cross Road is The Bloomsbury Hotel. It faces the back of the Dominion Theater. Nearby is the less expensive St. Giles Hotel. Check out reviews on Trip Advisor. Very high end and worth a stroll around the lobby are the Savoy, Claridges, Stafford, Connaught, Rosewood (Holborn), Mandarin et al. |

| Sofitel St James may be worth looking at. ME London is right in the theater district and its clean and often reasonably priced but I found it a bit too mod. Radisson Blu Edwardian Mercer Street Hotel is right across from Matilda. It may depend on which shows you are seeing. Hotel 41/Rubens at the Palace are both close to The Other Palace, and Victoria Station area where shows like Hamilton and Wicked are playing. It would be a hike to get to say, The Bridge Theatre where Guys and Dolls is and a healthy walk to the West End. Obviously many options and others may have good recommendations too. I hear Paris' much publicized bed bug problem may be headed to London so just be aware. More importantly, enjoy! |

| I have stayed twice at Staybridge Suites Vauxhall. A bit far from the West End, but easy bus access to the South Bank venues or a nice stroll along the Enbankment. Price was also right for suites with kitchens which I prefer for longer stays. Modern, clean and comfortable. Cafe, pub and Vauxhall Pleasure Garden park a block away. Tube station a few blocks.Tate Britain right across the Thames . | |
