| Lloyd has said he wanted a woman "who's in her prime, really brilliant, but has been discarded, just as we talk even now about women over 40 not having the opportunities they should have." This seems a bit disingenuous to me and, anyway, it doesn't really track with the production. Scherzinger does not even remotely suggest someone who has been "discarded." She's very beautiful and her voice is remarkable. As for her acting, it's hard to say because she--as with everything in the production--seems precisely manipulated by Lloyd. The production's thrilling by the way even as it frequently makes little sense. I guess you could say it works--brilliantly--at not working. |
