Wow.

"It's In Your Hands Now" was originally a cut song from Assassins called "Flag Song," reworked with new lyrics for Road Show. Some imitator, huh?

I didn't say it was a bad imitator. :)

Despite the tone of your response, I appreciate your telling me that it was a trunk song. Much of Road Show sounds like Sondheim starting to run out of new ideas, so I'm not surprised to learn that he finally succumbed to reusing old material.

What's your opinion of Road Show in general? Do you think it's up to the level of his earlier work?

Well, not quite. I do like much of the score, but ultimately I feel that Sondheim and Weidman just never quite found the most effective way to tell the story, try as they might. I also like some of Bounce better than some of Road Show. I do think some of the material is very good, but no, it's certainly never going to compare to the number of Sondheim's indisputably great musicals.

Sorry for the tone of my response earlier. But it does speak to the idea that it can be hard to tell what's the real stuff and what perhaps isn't lol. (Even though of course he did write the whole thing.)
