Covers always fascinate me. I still find it interesting - and wonderful - that Donna McKechnie stood by for Rivera in The Visit. She never went on, but according to a recent interview, was at least twice prepared to replace her mid-show. It's a stellar example of a star standing by for a star. Trying to think of famous examples in the past. Gretchen Wyler standing by for Bacall springs to mind. She wasn't listed in the Playbill {Ovrtur says "uncredited.") She never went on in Applause. When I saw Anne Baxter as Margo, Wyler wasn't listed. Bacall's cover in Woman of the Year was uncredited Louise Troy, so wonderful on the High Spirits OBC. I believe she only went on once, a half a performance for Debbie Reynolds.
