It was the same for Oliver! last season.
I believe Raul Esparza was out for the later half and, by some miracle, for the first time ever for Encores (so it was announced), they just happened to have an understudy available. I don't recall who it was, but the understudy was semi-well known actor.
I assume Encores needed Esparza's name to sell tickets and kept his real availability a secret until those specific performances. |
