I think Cherry Jones is in London rehearsing THE GRAPES OF WRATH at the National? Cherry Jones today is quite a bit younger than Tyne Daly, so there's no reason she couldn't still play Sister Aloysius.
There are dozens of regional theatre stars who have played the role who could presumably be called in, but Isabel Keating is a Tony nominee and a terrific actress and I'm sure nobody expected things to unfold as they have.
