''The Color Purple,'' Blitz Bazawule's 2023 screen adaptation of the Broadway musical, is now on Max, featuring Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks (as Sofia).
With Fantasia Barrino, who also played Celie on Broadway. Among its producers are Steven Spielberg & Oprah Winfrey, with a cameo by Whoopi Goldberg.
Yet with all that talent, I must admit I prefer the original and more moving 1985 ''Color Purple'' that Spielberg directed, and starred Oprah and Whoopi.
