| I thought the show explained his downfall in 2 ways. Firstly, popular music moves on. What was exciting and hot in the teens (1910-20) gave way to the jazz of Armstrong and Ellington in the ‘20s. Then, Morton was unwilling to give his music away to cheap producers and publishers who were exploitive and/or corrupt. He seemed never to have taken root in NYC. |
