I saw Merrily from the next to last row of
the balcony and it was just fine. But being extremely near-sighted, it would have been even better if I hadn’t gotten lazy and had filled my new prescription for eyeglasses before seeing the show. As it was, I’m sure I missed a few details, including some facial expressions, but I still enjoyed myself tremendously. I don’t think any emotion was lost (again, other than those facial expressions, which is really specific to my near-sightedness) from sitting in the balcony.
That said, if money were no object, I would have definitely opted for the orchestra or mezzanine. The orchestra has been my go-to section for several years now, but I just couldn’t justify what Merrily was charging to those orchestra seats. (I saw Sweeney from the orchestra and also loved the show.) |
