Emerging Artists Theatre, Chuck Braverman, Adam Weinstock, and Peter LeDonne are pleased to announce the full performance reading of All the Rage by Tony Award nominee, Larry Kirwan (Paradise Square), as part of the 2024 Sparks Theatre Festival, with music direction by Mark Fifer and directed by Karen Carpenter (Love Loss and What I Wore) directs. The reading will be on March 12, at 7:00 pm at 28th Street Theatre (TADA) 15 West 28th Street (between Broadway and 5th Avenue), 2nd Floor (elevator accessible), New York, NY 10001. It is 2009, when Shelley suddenly shows up, unannounced, at Rick’s East Village apartment. They had been bandmates and lovers in the 80’s - twenty-three years have passed since their tumultuous break-up. An intimate, two-character musical journey into the world of rock ‘n roll, All The Rage is a universal story of love lost and found again, written by playwright, Kirwan, a legendary rocker.

The production stars Chilina Kennedy (Paradise Square, Beautiful) as Shelly and Constantine Maroulis (Rock of Ages) as Rick, star-crossed lovers in this perfect double-star vehicle, efficiently producible in multiple markets, featuring a fantastic score of 18 new songs by Kirwan.

No one can tell this story better than Larry Kirwan, founder, lead singer, and composer for the internationally renowned Irish rock band, Black 47. He has written or collaborated on 21 plays and musicals. He is an acclaimed novelist and his autobiography, Green Suede Shoes, gave us an insider’s journey through the wild and crazy world of rock music.

The reading will be on March 12, at 7:00 pm at 28th Street Theatre (TADA) 15 West 28th Street (between Broadway and 5th Avenue), 2nd Floor (elevator accessible), New York, NY 10001. Subways: N/R/1/2 to 28th Street, B/D/F/W to 34th Street.

KAREN CARPENTER (director) values her collaborations on new works above all else. Her New Play Lab (now in its 7th year), initiated as Inge Festival Artistic Director, has hosted 200+ readings of new works; she produced or directed over 40 productions as Associate Artistic Director of the Old Globe; and was a co-producer of Eisenhower and Pay the Writer, Off-Broadway last season. MARK FIFER (Musical Director) has spent a lifetime immersed in music of every genre, from early years of classical piano discipline to his eventual discovery of Rock, Blues, R&B, Funk, Jazz, and the American Songbook. Mark believes in the power of music and song as a visceral, emotional, and necessary element in storytelling. Thrilled to be working with Larry Kirwan (again!) and this incredible ATR team. Currently: Arranger/Music Supervisor of Little Girl Blue, an acclaimed musical based on the life of cultural and Civil Rights icon Nina Simone. LGB’s 2022 Off-Broadway run at New World Stages received multiple award nominations (Lortel, Audelco), including Best Musical Direction. MD on: Rent(Reg. CHILINA KENNEDY is currently starring as “Cindy” in A Sign of the Times at New World Stages (York Theater Company). She most recently played “Billie Jean King” in the play Love All by Anna Deavere Smith at the La Jolla Playhouse. Other credits: “Annie O’Brien” in the new Broadway musical Paradise Square, “Elle” in the one-woman play The Human Voice (filmed for Toronto OIC), “Dina” in the International Tour of The Band’s Visit opposite Sasson Gabay (Toronto Theatre Critics’ Award). Chilina was Broadway’s longest-running “Carole King” in Beautiful – The Carole King Musical with over 1200 performances and she played “Mary Magdalene” in Des McAnuff’s Jesus Christ Superstar. Off-Broadway: “Binky” in Stephen Trask and Peter Yanowitz’s This Ain’t No Disco (Atlantic Theater Company). 1 st National Tour: “Sophie” in Mamma Mia!. LARRY KIRWAN (book and lyrics) was born in Wexford, Ireland, and lives in New York City. He was leader of Black 47 for 25 years during which the political rock band played 2500 gigs, released 16 albums, and appeared on every major US TV show. He has written 3 novels, Liverpool Fantasy, Rockin' The Bronx, and Rockaway Blue, a memoir, Green Suede Shoes, and A History of Irish Music. He has written or collaborated on 21 plays and musicals; and conceived Paradise Square, nominated for 10 Tony Awards on Broadway, including one for Kirwan as co-book writer. A political activist, he is an Irish Echo columnist and a celebrity host/producer of Celtic Crush on SiriusXM Satellite Radio. He was president of Irish American Writers & Artists for five years and received the 2022 Eugene O’Neill Lifetime Achievement Award.

CONSTANTINE MAROULIS is Best known for his Tony Nominated star turn in Rock of Ages on Broadway and as a finalist during the heyday of American Idol with superstar Carrie Underwood. Constantine is a 2x Tony Nominee, 3x Drama League Nominee for Distinguished Performance, and is a past recipient of the Broadway.com Star of The Year. Other credits include Frank Wildhorn’s Jekyll & Hyde, The Wedding Singer, Spring Awakening (producer), RENT, Jacques Brel, The Band of Merrymakers, Jesus Christ Superstar, Postmodern Jukebox, Rocktopia, Williamstown, Eaglemania, Foreigners Journey, the upcoming biomusical of Alan Freed, Rock and Roll Man and many more. Maroulis has toured extensively with his original music having recently released singles, Daydream and Comeback. In addition, Constantine is in development on many film, TV, and digital media projects. Training: Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

Emerging Artists Theatre’s Spark Theatre Festival NYC (formerly the New Works Series) began in 2006 and focuses on new works, new talents, and new voices. The bi-annual festival that runs in the Fall and Spring, showcases 50+ new dance pieces, plays, solo shows, cabaret, and musicals.
